What we collect when you make a complaint, and what we do with it.
What we collect
Your name, email address and, if you give them, your phone number, address and NIC number. The details of the problem you report, including where it is and any photographs or documents you attach. The date and time of your complaint and the internet address it came from.
How it is used
Your contact details are used to send you your complaint number, to send the one-time codes that let you track the complaint, and to reach you if an officer needs more information. The details of the problem are used to investigate it.
Who can see it
CEA head office staff, the regional office handling your complaint, and its supervising provincial office. Where a complaint is outside CEA's mandate it is referred to the responsible institution, such as a local authority or the police, and the details go with it. We do not sell or publish your personal details.
How long it is kept
Complaint records are kept permanently as part of the environmental record. Nothing is ever deleted outright; withdrawn records are marked and hidden, and remain in the audit history. One-time codes are erased after seven days.
Your choices
To report something without giving your name, call the hotline on 1981 instead of using this form: a complaint made online must carry contact details so we can send you the complaint number. To ask what we hold about you, or to correct it, write to the address on the About page.
